On October 23rd, a good news came from the scene of the 200,000-ton/a polypropylene plant in Guangdong Petrochemical Company. The plant extruded the vibrating screen of the granulator to produce crystal clear and uniform particles, and produced qualified products. This marks the successful trial run of the physical material of the extrusion granulation unit of the 200,000-ton/year polypropylene plant, and the completion of the powder conveying system, the granulation system, the polyblends warehouse and the air conveying system, and the completion of the construction of the integrated refining and chemical plant of Guangdong Petrochemical Company.

The 200,000-ton/a polypropylene plant is a new plant that meets the requirements of Guangdong Petrochemical Company's high-quality development strategy. After it is completed and put into operation, it will shoulder the task of developing and producing high-end new materials, create differentiated and high-end products, and add weight to Guangdong Petrochemical's rich product chain. Using propylene as the main raw material, the plant can produce 55 brands of products such as homopolymer, random copolymer and impact copolymer.

As the core unit of polypropylene plant, the extrusion granulation unit has a high degree of automation of electromechanical instruments. Polypropylene powder and different additives are mixed in a large screw, heated at high temperature and melted. Under the action of a twin-screw extruder and a melting gear pump, the polypropylene powder passes through a die plate and is pelletized underwater by a cutter. Under normal working conditions, the single line can produce 33 tons of polypropylene particles per hour.

The relevant team of the 200,000-ton/a polypropylene plant overcame many difficulties, such as tight construction period and heavy tasks, made detailed plans in the unit installation, oil transportation and start-up, and scientifically and reasonably organized the installation and commissioning of the granulation system. Technicians organized desktop deduction for many times, and actively solved various intractable diseases during driving. Process, equipment and instrument engineers strengthen communication with equipment manufacturers and general contractors, and confirm and optimize important control parameters such as equipment interlock, water flow rate for pelletizing and temperature of melting pump in detail, which lays a solid foundation for successful commissioning.
