By March 10th, Dushanzi Petrochemical Green Low Carbon Demonstration Project-Tarim 1.2 million tons/year ethylene project Phase II, the completion rate of the whole plant's above-ground pipe network was 88%, and the completion rate of concrete pouring was 71%. This project uses by-product hydrogen to produce synthetic ammonia, which has a good demonstration role in promoting the application of hydrogen energy in industrial field.

In recent years, Dushanzi Petrochemical Company has accelerated the use of clean low-carbon hydrogen instead of fossil energy in hydrocracking and hydrofining, studied green low-carbon projects and technologies such as green hydrogen and green methanol, and started demonstration projects at the right time. At present, it has built an industrial pilot project of hydrogen production from alkaline electrolyzed water of 1,000 cubic meters.

On February 25th, Cheng Ran, the second-class engineer of the second refining department of Dushanzi Petrochemical Company, came to the industrial test device area of hydrogen production by alkaline electrolyzed water of 1,000 cubic meters on the north side of the device area to check the implementation of anti-freezing measures. This experimental device was jointly built by China Petroleum Shenzhen New Energy Research Institute and Dushanzi Petrochemical Company. It was successfully tested on August 25th, 2023, and the purity of purified hydrogen reached 99.999%, which is a key link for Dushanzi Petrochemical Company to reshape the industrial chain value chain and promote green and low-carbon development. Wang Zhengwu, deputy manager of Refinery No.2 Department, said that employees are actively exploring the operation law of hydrogen production plant by electrolytic water, optimizing operation control, and preparing for the application of large-scale green electricity hydrogen production technology in the later period.

Xinjiang is rich in renewable resources such as light, heat and wind, and has the conditions to build a large-scale photovoltaic power station. With the cost of photovoltaic power generation decreasing year by year, the production mode of large-scale photovoltaic power station coupling electrolysis of water will be more advantageous, and it is expected to replace fossil energy as the main way of hydrogen production in the future, which will play a positive demonstration role for petrochemical enterprises to achieve the goal of "double carbon".

On December 24th, 2024, dushanzi area of Karamay City said that the by-product hydrogen of Dushanzi Petrochemical Refinery Unit was 77,000 standard cubic meters/hour, which can be used as an important source of local hydrogen in the near and medium term and form a diversified hydrogen source guarantee system together with hydrogen production from renewable energy.

The design capacity of the newly-built chemical fertilizer plant for the relocation and transformation of Dushanzi Petrochemical Green Low-carbon Demonstration Project is 450,000 tons/year of synthetic ammonia and 800,000 tons/year of urea. The existing equipment in Korla Plant of Tarim Branch of Dushanzi Petrochemical Company will be utilized to the maximum extent, and liquid ammonia and urea will be produced from PSA hydrogen and captured carbon dioxide, which will greatly reduce the consumption of raw natural gas and build an industrial chain with win-win economic, environmental and social benefits.
