General properties: from the appearance of ABS plastic material, it is mainly an opaque ivory-coloured granule, non-toxic, tasteless and with low water absorption, allowing its products to be painted in various colours and with a high gloss of over 90%. ABS has good combination with other materials and it’s easy to surface printing, coating and coating treatment.

ABS plastic, which has an oxygen index of 18.2, is a flammable polymer that has a yellow flame and black smoke, scorches but does not drip, and emits a distinctive cinnamon smell when burning. ABS is a very good all-round resin with good impact strength and surface hardness over a wide range of temperatures, a much higher heat deflection temperature than PA and PVC, and better dimensional stability.

Mechanical properties: ABS has excellent mechanical properties. Its impact strength is very good which can be used in any cold scenes at a lower temperature. Even if ABS products are damaged by external force, it can only be tensile failure, not impact failure. The wear resistance of ABS will be better than other plastics. Its excellent dimensional stability and good oil resistance can be used for bearings of medium load and rotating speed . The creep property of ABS is larger than that of PSF and PC but smaller than that of PA and POM. The bending strength and compressive strength of ABS are poor among the plastics. The mechanical properties of ABS are greatly affected by temperature.

Thermal properties: ABS plastic is a kind of amorphous polymer, and there is no obvious melting point. Its melt viscosity is high; the fluidity is poor; the weather resistance is poor that ultraviolet can change its color. The thermal deformation temperature is 70-107 ℃ (about 85), and the product can be increased by about 10 ℃ after annealing. It is sensitive to temperature and shear rate. ABS can still show certain toughness at - 40 ℃, and can be used for a long time in the temperature range of - 40 ℃ to 85 ℃.

Electrical properties: ABS has excellent electrical insulation properties and it is virtually unaffected by temperature, humidity and frequency levels, which is allowing to be used in most environments.

Environmental properties: ABS plastics are not affected by water, inorganic salts, alkalis, alcohols, hydrocarbon solvents and acids. But they are soluble in ketones, aldehydes and chlorinated hydrocarbons, and are subject to gradual stress and cracking from ice acetic acid and vegetable oils.
